The Ship is owned by Jenny & Jeremy Kingcome  but it's  Jeremy, Melinda & Andre that you will find behind the bar and manning the pizza oven on a daily basis.

Jeremy has had a lifelong love of food & hospitality and has dreamt of running a pub ever since he sat outside the Devon pubs of his childhood with a packet of crisps and a bottle of coke. In his opinion a pub is not a pub without a real fire so you'll find ours lit every day in Autumn & Winter.

Melinda has been creating pizzas at The Ship for the last 3 years and is the backbone of the kitchen.  She brings calm and order and keeps Jeremy in check.

They couldn't do it  without Andre & George who you'll also see on a daily basis.

Just a 15 minute walk from the main train station, we can be found situated across the road between the Guildford College of Law and Guildford Registry office.

The pub is popular with cyclists and walkers and if you are walking south along the River Wey from Guildford to Godalming you can and cut through Ferry Lane wich brings you out to the Portsmouth Road just beside us.

To book a table we advise you to call us on 01483 575731 but for anything else just drop us a message using the form below and we will be in touch as soon as possible.

Success! Message received.

While we are thrilled to be open again these strange times inevitably mean things will look and feel a little different.

Our priority has to be to keep you and our team safe so we have introduced various measures.  These include:

  • We can only welcome you in a maximum group size of 6 people.  These people can be from any number of households and this restriction applies both inside and outside.  We cannot split larger groups across multiple tables

  • A one way system within the pub.  Please enter through our main front door and exit via the side door

  • You'll see clear signage throughout the pub to advise you on how things operate

  • Inside the pub it will be table service only for food and drinks (if you can pay by card that would be great) and we have to ask that indoor customers don't come to the bar to be served,

  • Outside we will aim to offer table service.  If you do need to order at the bar please be prepared to queue outside to avoid congestion in the pub and entrance

  • Hand sanitiser will be readily available throughout the pub

  • All menus will be single use

  • Plastic screens will be in use at the bar and some of our staff may choose to wear PPE.  We also have freestanding screens throughout the pub to provide additional  protection

  • Some tables will be out of use to maintain social distancing.

  • We will require a name and contact phone number for all customers to assist NHS Track and Trace.

  • We have to ask that all children remain seated and are  accompanied to the toilet (this applies inside & out)

  • Sadly we have had to temporarily remove our games corner.  However  colouring,  playing cards,  mini connect 4 and snakes and ladders games  are available, all we ask is for a suggested donation to our chosen charity - Shooting Star Chase

Things you might not notice:

  • Additional cleaning practices

  • Different shift patterns to limit cross working within the team

  • Regular health check ins and daily temperate checks for all employees

  • Adjusted processes to maintain social distance back of house

  • Revised processes for accepting deliveries

All of the above might mean that service is a little slower than normal, especially as we settle in to the new way of doing things.  Please bear with us and if you have any feedback do let us know.
