The Ship is owned by Jenny & Jeremy Kingcome but it's Jeremy, Melinda & Andre that you will find behind the bar and manning the pizza oven on a daily basis.
Jeremy has had a lifelong love of food & hospitality and has dreamt of running a pub ever since he sat outside the Devon pubs of his childhood with a packet of crisps and a bottle of coke. In his opinion a pub is not a pub without a real fire so you'll find ours lit every day in Autumn & Winter.
Melinda has been creating pizzas at The Ship for the last 3 years and is the backbone of the kitchen. She brings calm and order and keeps Jeremy in check.
They couldn't do it without Andre & George who you'll also see on a daily basis.
Just a 15 minute walk from the main train station, we can be found situated across the road between the Guildford College of Law and Guildford Registry office.
The pub is popular with cyclists and walkers and if you are walking south along the River Wey from Guildford to Godalming you can and cut through Ferry Lane wich brings you out to the Portsmouth Road just beside us.

Working at The Ship
We take great pride in the warm welcome we offer and in the quality of the food and beer we serve. Our people are the core of that and we are very lucky to have a close knit team who work hard and are passionate about the pub and what they do.
As we emerge from lockdown and our enforced closure we are having to operate in new ways and are currently operating 5 days a week. We will be moving back to a 7 day operation in the near future and to support that we are looking to expand our team.
We are looking for someone with previous bar / front of house experience who wants to continue their career in hospitality. Current circumstances mean that initially hours will be variable so it may suit someone who is looking for part time work - which would include weekends. However our intention would be to move to full time hours as a salaried position. But we must stress that flexibility is key as we navigate the coming months.
You need to be in your element dealing with people of all ages and dogs, as we positively encourage our four legged friends to visit.
We are looking for someone who loves interacting with people and takes pride in recognising returning customers, knowing their regular drinks and actively engaging with them. You'll also have energy, initiative, excellent attention to detail and enjoy taking ownership. We're a small team so you'll be happy to get stuck in and do whatever needs doing.
You'll primarily be responsible for working front of house which includes all bar duties, serving drinks, taking food orders, clearing and cleaning, engaging with customers and maintaining the cellar. You may also help in the kitchen with making desserts or helping with the washing up.
If you like the idea of working with us please email us at with a copy of your CV. Please also include a covering note telling us a bit about yourself and and why you think you're the right fit for us.
